Heikki and Vuokko Gröhn opened CityHotel's doors on the 9th of March 1978. The hotel boasted 66 rooms, a restaurant for 55 persons, meeting rooms and saunas. The hotel was then the 3rh largest hotel in the Lapland region and employed 15 persons.
CityHotel was already a very popular hotel back then and already in 1985 the hotel expanded. 33 rooms were added and the restaurant now seated 150 people. The hard working Gröhn family and the CityHotel staff received recognition for their hard work.
In the same year the hotel was awarded “Entrepreneur of the year” and the Restaurant was awarded with the “Best Service in town-award”.
Mikael Gröhn and his wife Anne followed in Heikki and Vuokko’s footsteps and continued to innovate and renovate. They turned the hotel into the modern, cosy and personal 4*hotel it is today.
